Hi, I’m Lichen.

I am a textile designer who graduated with Distinction in my Master’s in Textiles from Bath Spa University in 2022. After a 20-year career designing textiles and developing trend predictions for the fashion industry, I now focus on creating unique, individually crafted pieces rooted in sustainable practice. Motivated by the need to make changes that better support the long-term sustainability of the textiles industry, my work explores more circular principles, embracing natural dyeing and the use of embroidery stitch as both a decorative and practical means of repair.

Alongside my creative work, I lecture at Stroud School of Art, leading the Fashion and Textiles pathway on the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design. I also work as an external moderator for University of Arts London, ensuring high academic standards across UAL art courses.

My commitment to sustainability extends beyond my own practice to my students, who have collaborated with Oxfam on projects centred around ‘refashioning’ a more sustainable future, participated in local ‘Trashion’ fashion shows, and organised ‘swop shop’ events aimed at minimising textile waste.

I have developed a series of workshops that champion sustainable practices, exploring the beauty of natural dyeing and decorative repair stitching. These sessions engage with traditional craft processes while encouraging thoughtful conversations around alternative approaches to consumption.
